We are just starting to plan our Japan North to South trip for September this year. I have only read the first few trip reports you have done, but want to thank you for the brilliant descriptive manner in which you set it all out. We are intending on tenting also. Are you available to chat on messenger at a convenient time?? My email is [email protected] - you could find my facebook (therefore messenger) via my website [email protected] - there is a link at the bottom. Fingers crossed from New Zealand!!

Ha, then I’d better get going on that essay!

So glad our journals have given you some ideas. I skipped the Buddhist hell scene at that temple, that just seems bizarre to me. Surely we humans can do the right thing without those sorts of threats.

I read many of your trip journals while planning our tour and loved them. Part of our purpose on this trip is to find places we’d like to return to and explore more thoroughly, so maybe in the future we’ll be doing deeper dives here, like yours. And the elephant pants — my gosh! At first I assumed they were just tourist garb but we’ve since seen so many Thais wearing them. I’ll look forward to reading your essay — maybe it will answer some of my questions.

Better hope the load is really well balanced, or the whole thing could turn turtle.

Hi you two, I just discovered you’re in Thailand, covering some territory familiar to us. I’m planning a short essay in our journal on the evolution of the whole ‘elephant pants’ phenomenon in Thailand, and have promised to bring some home for my granddaughters. It’s a remarkable trend!
