Steve Miller/Grampies commented on Days 113-115 — Ban Krut

We are still working on finishing Xmas Eve. It feels strange to be communicating in almost real time, but a full day apart, doesn't it?

Charlotte Buswell commented on Thoughts on Japan

Many thanks for your thoughts on Japan Marilee. Enjoy Thailand-we cycled south of Bangkok to Phuket earlier this year, was hot but fantastic food.

Hi Charlotte, it really depends what you’re after in terms of a ride for a recommendation to a specific part of Japan. Honshu was great and probably the most “Japanese” but the climbs are very challenging. Shikoku was lovely and has the temple route if that’s of interest. We loved Hokkaido but a big part for us was the camping experience there.
For your second question— we always ride single file and I think riding side by side would be very dangerous on many of the roads we were on.

Goodness what a trip this looks, we are considering a much shorter, maybe one month Japan trip. Your final Japan summary is excellent. Hokkaido looked good-which part of Japan would you think was the most enjoyable? We are a post-retirement couple who don’t camp. Toured in Taiwan in early 2020 and absolutely loved it.
One question about Japan if that’s OK-how did you do with the law about not cycle side by side?

I hope your COVID/flu shot hangover is/was better than the zombie-day that mine was! And that you don't have far to cycle the next day...

The magic of serendipity! So great that you stumbled upon your old journals. Looks like the Thai portion of your trip is off to a great start. We enjoyed following you vicariously through Japan and maybe someday we’ll do it for real. It’s bubbling to near the top of our list.

It is amazing that those tangled wires actually work. They look the same in Yucatan. At first they concerned us, now it us just a normal part of the place.

Why do they make travelling with bikes so difficult?! I prefer ferries just for being able to roll on and roll off…
