Rio Pico to Gobernador Costa
To this point I've been surprised at the lack of strong wind. Its been breezy this last few days but nothing that has had an effect on riding. However, things were about to change for the worse, as I looked up from the picnic table on the campsite where I sipped on my mate. The wind was blowing hard through the treetops.
With a tailwind I set off at 9. The plan was to cycle east until Provincial Route 64 turns off south towards a place called Aldea Apeleg. But this was looking doubtfull due to strong wind. At the entrance to town is a wood cabin tourist office where I stopped. The woman there didn't know much about the route, but she let me photograph the map on the wall with the route on it.
As I neared the turn off and the wind push me along it was looking impossible to go right where I'd have crosswind. Furthermore, I could see 64 wind up onto the bare exposed meseta which wouldn't bare thinking about on a day like today. As it is the paved road I'm on, I barely need to pedal. At one point I had stopped and was starting off again when a car stops and the driver asks do I need help. I could've replied I have more than enough help.
To stop and take a photo was hard due to the force of the wind and inability to stand still. The road continued into a barren countryside, past a salt-pan with scrawny sheep on the green area at the side.
The last few kilometre I had turned onto Route 40 and passes a Swiss castle of a estancia set in a large block of popular trees and not far on, it was good reaching Gobernader Costa early, where I stop for a welcome milanesa sandwich at the YPF service station before checking into Hotel Roca, where I could feel the heat of the sun on my face, so spent the afternoon in the room resting and got some of the journal updated in the evening.
