We have had an excellent 2 night stay at EnCity Hotel in Nobeoka. It is known as a hotel that plans and host weddings which contributes to their success. This grand hotel has a quiet elegance, spacious rooms and the best breakfasts of our trip. There is a wide variety of choices and well prepared. We didn’t have any big plans for a 2 night stay…we just wanted to relax and have a break from riding.
At breakfast the chef prepares eggs to order. It was fascinating to watch him whisk the eggs and then turn and flip them with chopsticks. We are getting pretty dexterous with chopsticks but I can’t imagine flipping the eggs as he did.
Some of our favourites…Nanban chicken, salad, marinated tofu, udon, noodles in broth with pickled veg and fish cake, miso soup, raw egg on rice and burdock.
We like breakfast in Japan which is made up of a selection of small dishes which you choose at the buffet. Somehow it is less overwhelming this way.
Shochu, a distilled beverage is very popular and made here. It is a clear beverage like sake, but very different. It is nice to have a sip of Shochu with your breakfast.
Our home for tonight is R9 The Yard. It is a relatively new addition to accommodation in Japan. They use containers which can accommodate 2 people. It is surprisingly comfortable and they provide dinner. They are always immaculate.
