It’s all about the knees!
You never know what challenges or opportunities life may bring. My knees have been a problem most of my life and I have been notified that I am scheduled for a knee replacement (the first of two) in late December or January. Originally Barry was heading to Japan on his own for this trip as we were concerned if I could handle it and if going would delay the surgery. The surgeon has been very supportive of me remaining as active as I can be. This will set me up for more success and hopefully a better recovery. So here we are, the Bartlett’s are riding again. And it is probably no surprise that we are heading back to Japan. 😺

We have chosen a route with fewer mountain passes than our previous trip. We are excited to visit new places and discover new gems for our memory banks. The challenge of Japan is that 80% of this country is mountainous or very hilly. I’ll fill you in later on the complete route we want to do, but to start, we will begin in Kobe, followed by the Seto Sea and its beautiful islands, Shikoku, and the Shimanami Kaido bicycle route…Our wish list includes Beppu on Kyushu and the island of Yakashima south of Kyushu. Updates to follow when we figure it out. As we decided on this trip at the last minute, we have had to act fast…securing plane tickets, finding accommodation for the first few days, getting packed, prepaying bills, etc.
For us, travelling in Japan is a happy and joyous experience. Being reserved Canadians, we are always pleasantly surprised at the genuine friendly and welcoming nature of the people we encounter here. Our day is full of spontaneous encounters which leave us with a lasting impression of the day.
