Assembling the trikes and riding to Kobe in 30 degree humidity

For us, there is nothing more disorienting than jet lag.  We travelled for about 14 hours and arrived in Itami at 5 am BC time.  it really does mess with your brain.

We look forward to this breakfast when we stay at the hotel in the Itami terminal. The hotel, in partnership with the restaurant, offers a special rate for guests. Congee with dashi sauce, grilled salmon and a selection of garnishes. Tasty.

The weather is good…but hot (30 degrees Celsius) and very humid. After breakfast we checked out and got to work putting our trikes together. We both feel quite impaired from lack of sleep but excited to get on the road.

This woman came by to chat with us and welcome us to Japan. She was delightful yet she spoke no English. Somehow it didn’t matter…we communicated in our own way.

We met Yoshi, who has a recumbent bike store in Osaka, on our first trip to Japan. He kindly stores our batteries for us at the end of each trip and then has them waiting for us at a nearby office that does deliveries The trikes are finally assembled and we have dropped by to pick up our batteries.

A

Yamato Transport is the company that holds our batteries for us. We like their logo with a cat and her kitten. Many travellers in Japan use this service to transport their luggage daily when travelling. It is efficient and inexpensive.

We use the app Ride with GPS often to create routes suitable for cycling. Today the route is excellent taking us down quiet small roads through pretty areas with traditional homes.

Loving the cooling effect of the trees lining the road and also the lack of traffic.

It has been a full on day getting to Kobe assembling the trikes and then riding 40+km. We are both very tired…looking forward to a shower and early to bed.

This week is a very busy time in Kobe due to a number of holidays converging in Japan as well as  China, Korea and Taiwan. This results in high hotel prices and low availability…plus it leads in to the weekend. So we have booked 3 nights in Kobe and 2 nights in Takamatsu which will take us to Monday. Hopefully next week things will get back to normal.
