Chalten 4
I was to continue cycling today if it wasn't for the wind, which with incredible force blew all yesterday afternoon and waking up this morning was still blowing hard driving sleety horizontal rain down the valley.
The sun broke through around 08 when I was at breakfast and I soon pack some lunch in the backpack and headed out up the trail to Laguna Torre, climbling up a partly wooded valley with the Fitzroy river in a gorge far below on the left and at about 3 kilometres reach a highpoint with a viewpoint where most pause. The view ahead is of 10 mountain peaks on the edge of the Southern Icefield, or the view would be on a clear day. Today the cloud is low down and it is raining not far ahead.
There wasn't much point in continuing further into the rain, so I turned around and descended back down to the village. A good decision as the rain followed and I would spend the afternoon with other campers hold up in the campsite common room avoiding the wind driven rain.
Tomorrow's forecast is more of the same, strong wind and sleety rain. Saturday is a little better and Sunday begins a spell of calm weather.
