Villa O Higgins
There was a little rain overnight. Though, nothing more than a few droplets drumming on the bivouac outer-skin, thats all. Spitting, none got through and it remained dry inside. Still, I wonder how the bivouac would fare if it were raining properly.
This morning I packed up and parked the Kona in the hostel veranda, though, I am not moving on yet. Not until Thursday, weather permitting.
Villa O Higgins is at the end of the road, near the border with Argentina, which is a large lake called Lago O Higgins. And, the next part of my journey requires a boat crossing and hike-abike into Argentina.
I bought my boat ticket for today, Monday; but, due to strong wind being forecasted, the sailing was moved forward to Sunday evening, so I missed it. The ticket though is tranferable to the next scheduled sailing. Thereby I'm here for a few days more. Not a bad outcome as although this is a small place, it attracts a lot of visitors and therefore has quite a few family run supermarkets and restaurants, so there is a good variety of food. Furthermore, located in a southern Andes valley, the scenery is stunning. There are a few hikes. Today I hiked up to a viewpoint on the hill to the east of town with a great panaramic view of Lago Cisne to the right, where the 7 comes down along, Lago Ciervo in the middle and Lago O Higgins off to the left. Apparently, the Northern Icefields are visible on a clear day when the cloud isn't down on the mountaintops like today.
Lastly, its good to speak with other travellers staying at the hostel/campsite.
