Cochrane
Eighteen months on the road cycling the length of America from Alaska. That takes commitment and disipline. But as if that wasn't a big enough trip, I didn't expect the young French cyclist Quentin's reply when I asked are you looking forward to going home to France in January. Non, after I reach Ushuaia., I fly to Cape Town in South Africa and cycle to Uganda, then fly to Senegal and cycle home.
In the afternoon of my day off in the campsite here in Cochrane, it was inspiring to glance over at Quentin's pitch and see him work his way around his bike spraying lube on moving parts vunerable to corrosion, then with a cloth clean his bike until close to spotless. He told me his mum and dad had been cycle tourists too, and in 2011 when he was in his early teens, he did his last cycle tour wirh his parents which was cycling around Ireland.
Well, the hot weather continues today and its good to sit in the shade instead of cycling. There is a laundry service at the campsite which we three cyclists put our cloths together to make a load. The wifi works ok, though often it stops for a few minutes before coming back on. Frustrating when all you want is to finish a bit of journal. Yared and Quentin got haircuts at a hairdresser working at home and while I would've liked a haircut too, the hairdresser only took cash payment. And apart from that its been a relaxing day off the road that will probably morph into two days.
