Drumroaster - Grampies Repositioning Ride: Leipzig to Valencia Fall 2025 - CycleBlaze

Drumroaster

Drumroaster is the name of our local coffee shop. It is a family business that has been around for some time, evolving from another local one call Serious Coffee. The shop roasts its coffee on site, and apparently uses a 1958 "Probat UG22" drum roaster. But roasting equipment  is not at the heart of today's story. Rather it's the fact that Drumroaster is about 6 km from our house. Like the "Mailbox", which is 270 meters from our house, it's a major goal, for times when sickness or injury cancels our usual 60-100 km range.

Well today I cycled to Drumroaster, and I rather think that if I can do 6 km, I can do 60.

The Drumroaster looks rather like R2D2.

A whole pile of tests are scheduled for the coming weeks. Depending on the results, our cycling career could be over, or the Grampies might ride again.  Just from a logistics point of view, we failed to "reposition", and so our bikes are in the wrong place for a Spring trip. And we also canceled Costa Rica, which was going to happen at the end of November. But based on having travelled all the way to Drumroaster (and back!), I have begin to burble about Yucatan in January.  It's way too early to say.

Now could be the time to put this blog to sleep, with perhaps sporadic posts for any important test results.  But I still want to post  on September 17, which is the anniversary, "Yahrzeit", of losing Joni.  Until then...

Kathleen JonesJust catching up here, and yikes! So sorry you’ve had this happen to you. I hope you get a good diagnosis very soon and the meds you need to get you back on the bike and out in the world. Good thoughts sent to both of you.

Andrea BrownWe definitely want updates and will keep hope alive that you will be rolling again before long. The trip to Drumroaster shows you have tremendous motivation! It's been quite a year for losses for you two and I imagine that has taken a real toll, but there are friends and family and CycleBlaze pals that are in your corner. All the best, and good luck (and results!) with all the upcoming diagnostics.

Greg StrangeYou two are legends of Crazyguy and Cycleblaze and an inspiration to all of us aging cyclist. I did a quick google search on TIA and it recommends exercise, so maybe you should consider cycling more :) Anyway, we're all pulling for you.

Mark BinghamI'm also pretty optimistic that you'll be back on the bikes with little or no residual effects, and I'm looking forward to reading about your future adventures.

Scott FenwickI am thinking that you can take the bike from the boy but you can't take the bike out of the boy. You will be riding again!
