The Mailbox!
This page title is a bit of a double entendre. First, I want to thank so many friends and readers who have sent get well wishes. We tried to answer a lot, but could probably plead disability for those that were missed! Thanks everyone.
Today I had a visit with my GP. Thanks to brother Harold for setting this up, while we were still in Germany. The GP did not really disagree with our TIA explanation of what happened. And while he still has faith that the Rapid Stroke Assessment people will call one day, he did go ahead with the standard steps to head off any repeat: Baby Aspirin, and Statins. That feels like progress to me!
Meanwhile, I am feeling lots stronger than 10 days ago, and have begun to agitate to go back on my bike. That's where the mailbox comes in. Just like with Tricia some time ago ( I seem to recall), the ability to reach the mailbox (in our case, 600 feet away at the top of the driveway) is a trivial but still significant milestone.
I set off for the mailbox today, getting Dodie to document this with the camera. If I would make it, then I could post the picture, and if not, I guess she would also need a shovel, to clear me off the road.
I started off up the slope, forgetting that the bike had been left in a high gear, and thinking "this isn't going to happen". But I shifted, and it was ok. Even so, I could not say I felt totally confident over the 1200 foot journey. I came back saying that the next should still be the short 5 km ride to the coffee shop. Dodie (and the GP) are dubious, but I of course am determined!
