The Future - Grampies Repositioning Ride: Leipzig to Valencia Fall 2025 - CycleBlaze

The Future

David Alston, Keith Klein, Tricia Graham, Scott Anderson, Steve Miller - the list of cyclists in our age cohort running into problems is growing. This is of course inevitable and quite normal, but none of us knows exactly when it will be Closing Time.

Last night I found a way into my imaging reports, and it was rather weird. The docs have no idea what caused my symptoms  in Calbe, but now that they are having a closer look at my sorry frame, they are finding all sorts of other problems. So more diagnostics are coming.

Our own theory now is that it was a Transient Ischemic Attack at Halle-Calbe.  That usually leaves no traces that a CT Scan can spot. But it signals a full scale stroke possibly coming.

For now, though, I seem to be getting stronger day by day. I haven't quite felt up to getting back on the bike, but maybe in  few days. So were we right to come back from Germany? And more to the point, when might we go back?

Perhaps I will be getting some blood thinners or such. And maybe those other detected glitches are not too serious. It will take some time to tell.  But if at all possible, we'll be back out there!

John FlecknerJust add us to the list of not-now cycling. Will be doing France by train beginning next week, however. No blogging. Neck and wrist issues between the two of us.

Best wishes to you both and hoping for your good recovery.

Jacquie GaudetRemember that rest is part of training! I hope you find out what caused your problems so you can decide how to proceed and that cycle touring is once again part of your future.

Keith ClassenHopefully this is a minor bump in the road and you are able to get back on the saddle in the very near future. Some of us older types may have to pivot and modify our mode of transportation as the years take their toll. Needless to say I think we have all had a pretty good run and have been very fortunate to do what we like doing.

Sue PriceIf it ultimately means you get to go out and cycle again to your heart's content, getting some tests done now and sorting it all out is a pretty good trade off I think. And just think of all the preplanning you can get done while you wait! Oh the places you will go!!!

Bob KoreisAny chance they might send you to the University of Washington hospital or some specialty institution for a workup? With all of the fancy diagnostic testing now available, I'd think they should be able to find an area of decreased blood flow.

Steve Miller/GrampiesTo Bob KoreisWe seem to read that even MRI can not detect TIA unless done really promptly. Also the Canadian medical people do not even seem to recognize that they are falling down on the job, much less be willing to pay for someone that does know what they are doing.

Karen PoretWell, no news in this case may be good news ( for now), but the medical system is enough to make your blood boil, thus another type of a “thinner”, if you will. Waiting is the worst part. We want it over and done with already so we can get back to what we want to do when WE want to do it and not when someone else says so.

To give you my perspective of impatience, I will let you know my story. As a premature baby ( 6 1/2 months..75 years ago, no less) My Dad said “Karen was born in a hurry and she’s been in a hurry ever since.”
