Summer Rally To Vancouver, Salt Spring, and Gabriola Islands 91

About

I started road cycling in 2021 during recovery from a torn ACL, and I've been riding ever since. In 2022, I lived in Mountain View, CA and cycled frequently for sport. In 2023, I moved to Sitka, AK and rode primarily as a commuter on the island's fourteen miles of road.

In late 2023, I embarked on my first "credit card" tour -- Seoul to Busan on the Four Rivers Trail. It was my first time travelling by bicycle for tourism purposes. I immediately fell in love with the freedom, friendly interactions, and capacity to eat two additional meals a day.

A subsequent tour in Japan built my confidence to tour more, for longer, and on the other side of the road (UK touring, here I come). In 2024, I completed a three month tour from Geneva to Sardegna. Recently, I dipped my toe into bikepacking (touring + camping). Now, I'm on the lookout for a gravel bike (n+1).

In the future, I hope to tour Taiwan and Haida Gwaii.

My riding style is to tour light and fast. I prefer to outsource fuelling to the local talents and terroir. I am happy to eat three pounds of assorted mikan in one sitting, have a lopsided meal of three saucissons and a pissaladière, lunch that is exclusively yoghurt with sour cherry mint jam, an afternoon pick-me-up of spoonfuls of crema di pecorino with su carasau, and sometimes roadside arbus berries with emergency Nutella packets. I also find myself unusually tempted by mundane household goods like garlic shampoo, bizarre fermented drinks, and local flaky salt.
