Hunza Valley: Driving the Karakorum Highway

To Karimabad, Gilgit-Baltistan

We the summit of Nanga Parbat from the Skardu to Gilgit Highway.

Gilgit is the futherst most city in Pakistan.

Our first meeting Carmillo and Monica from Chile (see another post day)

Across the valley we can see the old Silk Road along the mountain side. They built the trail higher up to avoid the flooding river below.

Karimabad, the capital of Hunza.

One of two fortresses in Karmibad. This is the lower one controling the river.

Our hotel in Karimabad.

There is a coffee shop / german bakery in Karimabad. The original owner worked in Germany and brought back the idea. His kids are now running the busy place.

"It's good to be king" and sit up here to watch over your valley.

The combination of wood and stone gives flexibility to the walls which is an advantage during an earthquake.
