K2 Trek Day 9: Rest Day at Concordia (4650m)

Our campsite at Concordia with Mitre Peak overhead.

From the bottom right to the top: de Black Pyramid, the Shoulder, Bottleneck and summit of K2. All landmarks on the main climbing route up the Abruzzi Spur.

Green tea instead of whiskey....with snicker bar from Brandon and Katherine. We left the whiskey they gave us too at home.

Just trying to stay warm. Our sleeping bags are airing on top of the tent.

Patrick with Muhammad and Nahid. Without these guys we would not have made it up here.

K2 with another peak nicknamed "son of K2" over its western flank. Basecamp at the glacier coming down the south face. about 12 km away.

Nahid has invited a military guy who is from his village in Hunza in who is stationed at the camp up here to join us for dinner.

The team that helped us up here. The mule guys are missing, they took their animals back down to Goro2 where they could find some food off the glacier.

Addendum to this day: When we returned to Skardu we learned that oma passed away this day. Here she is playing cards with her friend Willem on our deck in Boise during a visit. Willem passed away at his home four days before oma.
