Marakech Day 2: City time
We put our bikes together- which was pretty easy because the bike boxes I picked up at a bike shop were made for electric bikes and, as a result, were really big. All I had to do was take off the front wheel, handle bars and front rack. This was the the first tour for these bikes. Our previous touring bikes had S couplings which allowed us to put them in a box 26x26x10 enabling us to check them as luggage. This saved us a lot of money because a few years back the airlines were charging $200/bike each way. However, the process of reassembling a bike with S couplings is about 1.5 hours per bike.
These new bikes were custom made by CoMotion in Oregon and we went with a Rohloff 14-speed hub. We like them a lot and didn't have to worry about bending a derailleur when cramming the bikes into or on top of a cab. The other thing I really like about these bikes is the Dynamo Hub. It keeps the front light on all the time which makes it really easy to spot your partner in your mirror when they are behind you in traffic or a half-mile behind you on the road.
We met some old biking friends today, walked the market and rode out to where they were staying. They gave us a hot spot because we couldn't get the esim to work on our phones (see Indroduction)
