Elephants Footprint Lodge

We arrived in the dark last night so after a good sleep we wandered around a little to get a bit of exercise and start adjusting to the heat.  Our accommodation is quite unique as you will see in the photos.  In the afternoon we took a boat ride on the Sunday River to see some of the local bird life.  It was a great boat ride and again the photos will do the talking when I can load them.  The remainder of our group arrived today and they are Germans or Swiss who speak German, this is what I expected.

Some of the bird photos I took some are liberated from the internet.  I saw the birds but my photos weren’t very good.

My red bishop. They only turn red in the spring mating season and each bird is different.

They nest in the reeds at various levels each year which indicates how much rain is coming because if too low they will flood out when the river rises.

A snake head cormorant, it is called this because when in the water the body is submerged and the head an neck look like a snake slithering through the water.
