Klaarstroom
Our day started at four o'clock this morning, woken up by the baboons barking and shouting from the cliff opposite our campsite. Despite the early wake up call we didn't get going until some time after seven o'clock. It was just too easy sitting drinking coffee and enjoying the peacefulness of the kloof.
One option for today was to take the Swartberg Pass over the mountains to Oudtshoorn but would entail a climb of about twelve hundred meters on a dirt road. We had no reason to go to Oudtshoorn, the largest town in the Little Karoo, and besides we had an easier route in mind.
Our route took us eastwards through the pretty Prince Albert Valley filled with farms growing onions and olives. The mountains on either side of us were punctuated by kloofs making for a ride easier on the eye than it was on our legs.

We reached Klaarstroom at about eleven thirty and checked in to the historic Klaarstroom Hotel (est. 1874). The town is not much more than a single street off the N12 so we had a very relaxing afternoon (although I did stretch my legs in the veld north of the hotel for about an hour and a half).
A short day through Meiringspoort to De Rust in the Little Karoo tomorrow. Much easier than tackling the Swartberg Pass.
Today's ride: 49 km (30 miles)
Total: 1,492 km (927 miles)
