5 Km south of Prince Albert

A true rest day today.  A ride of just a few kilometers to Bushman Valley south of Prince Albert where there is a campground with a handful of sites spread far apart from each other.

On our ride out of the town Leigh took the time to photograph some of the attractive old buildings.

The date on the gable reads 1838.

Our campsite is in a kloof in the foothills of the Swartberge and wonderfully isolated given its proximity to Prince Albert. We are the only people here and we are just enjoying the silence. Yesterday's ride down to Prince Albert seemed therapeutic after the business of the N1 but this has taken it to another level.

I have spent much of the day clambering up and down the steep and rocky hillsides taking in what Nature had to show me.  Nothing exciting was found but it was most relaxing.

Our campsite is somewhere down there.

As the day drew to a close, a large troop of baboons moved into the kloof, foraging on the hillside opposite our campsite.   Their sentinel, perched at the top of the kloof, barked out warnings whenever they got too close to us, while we enjoyed our pre-prandials and cooked our supper.  They eventually moved onto the cliff face to roost for the night and we can still hear them bickering amongst themselves as I type up this journal entry.

It has been a lovely day and I feel truly at home here.

Tomorrow we head due east along the northern edge of the Swartberge to Klaarstroom.

Today's ride: 7 km (4 miles)
Total: 1,443 km (896 miles)
