Prince Albert Road

There's not much to see on today's section of the N1 apart from the dry veld of the Great Karoo fringed by the Swartberge in the south and the Nuweveld Mountains in the north.  So with strong winds predicted for the afternoon we managed to hit the road by five thirty, arriving in Prince Albert Road before noon.

An Anglo-Boer War blockhouse that now doubles as a rest stop. The British built these blockhouse to defend the railway line.

The Swartberge to the south holding back waves of clouds. The weather has changed with the maximum temperature today almost ten degrees lower than yesterday.

The wind wasn't the only reason why we needed to get to our digs early.  The Springboks were taking on the Azzuri, Italy's national rugby team, soon after two followed by New Zealand  vs England.  So we had an afternoon full of rugby.

We're both quite tired after our brisk ride this morning  but tomorrow is a shorter day heading in a south-easterly direction to Prince Albert.
