Blinkwater - The eighteenth step ... Heading home from the Kalahari - CycleBlaze

Blinkwater

After an early start to avoid the heat , we wound our way up the mountain from  Citrusdal.  It was only eleven kilometers but it took two and three quarter hours.  A very strong wind made the climb (up to ten percent inclines) a lot harder than it should have been.  Leigh sensibly walked for a lot of the way and was still fresh when we got to the Blinkwater campground at about nine o'clock.   I guess we could have carried on further but we were being careful given how she has felt this past week.  Besides, we had aready booked and paid for tonight and tomorrow's accommodation.

I'm never able to capture wind in a photo.

Scott AndersonThe words help. It's obvious once you point it out.

The Cederberge have attractions formations and is a popular hiking and camping destination. It is also where Aspalathus linearis or rooibos occurs naturally. This is the bush from which redbush tea is made.

We had the  campground to ourselves for much  of the day but it has filled up a lot this afternoon.  Mostly families with young kids.

Tomorrow we climb almost five hundred meters again but over only seven kilometers and all on dirt road.  I'm not sure we could have coped with doing it all in one day.  Today the temperature reached about thirty four degrees and tomorrow it is forecast to get to thirty nine so we are hoping to get away early in the morning.
