Lutzville - The eighteenth step ... Heading home from the Kalahari - CycleBlaze

Lutzville

The wind that we mostly avoided on the way to Nuwerus was ready and waiting for us by the time we left at about a quarter past seven.  In retrospect this was about an hour too late.  Despite the general downhill trend, the headwind made today hard work.

The first twenty seven kilometers was sandy and corrugated.   In conjuction with the strong headwind  - about thirty to forty kilometers an hour  - it meant by the time we got to the intersection with the tarred road we were already a a half an hour behind where we should have been.

Another tortoise rescue.

Elspeth JarmanLoving the tortoise interest! Too cute. We had one turn up in our garden once. Looked after it for months until it escaped. I choose to believe he is still out there somewhere.

Once on the tarred section of the R363 things were no easier with the wind getting stronger and stronger.  With ten kilometers to go we gave up trying to get to Lutzville before the local supermarket closed at one o'clock.   So both lunch and supper have been rather crappy take away food from the convenience store at the service station in town.

Tomorrow we head for Doringbaai on the coast about forty kilometers away.  It can only be better.
