Garies

Last night's excellent campsite.

We were on the road by eight and soon into longish climb, interrupted only to help a young Leopard Tortoise ( (Stigmochelys pardalis)) across the road before it got run over by a vehicle.  Hopefully Leigh put it on the side of the road on which it wanted to be.

Striped Thorny-katydids are common on the roads here (Acanthoproctus vittatus). Not the prettiest cricket.

At the top of the first climb we had to stop to don an extra layer due to a cold mist rolling in from the sea about sixty kilometers away.

Today was much cooler than yesterday and the weekend is predicted to be even colder with morning temperatures barely staying above zero.  After the mist passed, the skies cleared and we had pleasant temperatures in the mid twenties.

The inevitable roller coaster that is the N7.

About halfway we started a series of long downhills taking us from over 800 meters to about 220 meters.

We had intended to camp again but the campground in Garies looked dire.  So we have a simple apartment at Sophia's Guesthouse  - my son's recommendation based on his field trips to this area.

Tomorrow is a hard ride to Nuwerus.  Lots of hills and probably a headwind.
