just me - danube and rhine . then home to Norwich - CycleBlaze

November 4, 2025

just me

it is only november 2025 but i already know my target for june2026 .. what could well  be my last significant ride.

so i am exploring how to post a journal well in advance of the write up of the ride

So what is my cycling background.. well i am 83 now , 84 for the ride next year .. i did have a bike at Uni .. a very long time ago .. in due course I did  serious physical activities .. 5 London marathons in my  40s ,, best time 3.13 .. then it was orienteering at national events in my 50s , until I came to cycling in my 60s.. Started with audax 200km events .. but then went mad .. so that extreme long distance became my thing  PBP . LEL , PAP 1200kms . all against the clock with a  90 hour time limit and  for example  as a variant LEJOG with a 9 day group

Those  days are now gone , and  I have explored organised tours ( with my wife in a care home .. i thought some friendly company would be a bonus ).. so I rode Porto to Lisbon .. Outer Hebrides on my own , and a Brittany ride, but realise.now ...... that my physical power is limited .. so sticking with my existing road bike , hills need to be minimised .. but i still crave the sense of achievement and doing something distinctive .. so the plan is to start from Passau on the Danube., after a flight to Munich then the boat trip Passau / Vienna / Passau is booked  then start on Danube  cross over to the Rhine .. back to Hook of Holland .. ferry across to Harwich and finally back to Norwich .. thats the plan .. so now lets see how my journal writing goes over the coming months

Tricia GrahamYou will have a great ride. Ken and I are 86 and 88 and last year completed our 13th long distance tour in Europe. This year not so successful as I kept falling over. Recording your ride on this website really easy and I will look forward to following it
