We see a lot of these same kind of fish being roasted the same way. They are coated with salt. It seems that millions of Thais raise these fish in ponds on their land.

This is funny. We always try to break 1000 Baht bills ($30) but every time I try to pay with them people hate dealing with them. Even guest houses that cost 600 Baht the people act like it is the worst thing in the world to try to find change for me. So, we go to 7-Eleven and buy something for 20 Baht and pay with 1000. The cashiers never deny me. They don't want to do it but I think there must be a policy at 7-Eleven to never act like it is a big pain to give change no matter what the customer hands you. But this is the first time I've ever seen a sign saying they will not take 1000 Baht bills. It was at a restaurant.

Steve Miller/GrampiesWe have the same problem with larger bill denominations here in Yucatan. Dodie will often use a much larger bill than necessary in a larger grocery store, just to get her change in smaller denominations.

Steve Miller/GrampiesTo Bruce LellmanWeirdly at the Oxxo stores here when Steve tried to make a purchase using cash, they claimed an exact change only policy. Who can figure it?

Andrea BrownTo Bill ShaneyfeltNo, it really is about having change on hand. Most Thais use a cashless app to pay even small vendors and businesses so cash is less common. And the very small vendors live pretty close to the bone and simply cannot change anything over 50 baht because they spent what they had on hand to buy their goods in the first place. Or they sold three bunches of bananas, enough to pay for lunch. You often see them running over to another vendor to borrow even a very small amount of change. It’s unthinkable and unkind to give them larger bills and put them on the spot. 7-Eleven is our bank.

Kanchanaburi was what was called a fortress city. That means it was the first line of defense for, in this case, Ayuthaya in the 18th century. If the Burmese were going to march on Ayuthaya they would first have to take Kanchanaburi.
