St. Maries to Cheney WA
Elevation gain: 2,175 feet
St. Maries to Plummer is a dangerous stretch of busy highway with little shoulder because from what I can tell, Idaho hates bikes, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes excepted. So, we got a lift from the motel operator to Plummer and started our day there.
From Plummer to Cheney was a beautiful ride through the North Palouse on nice roads with little traffic and rolling hills. It should have been a beautiful day except that we fought what felt like a 90-mile headwind all day.
None the less, the roads were great until the road inexplicably turned into gravel for the last 10 or so miles. I'm pretty sure this was unnecessary, but my brother Doug was leading, and he does love gravel roads.
