From the nearby plaque I learned that this sun sculpture is 90 inches in diameter, and each planet is sized to be in proportion to this 90-inch sphere. The planets are also distributed along the trail to be in proportion to their distance from the sun. Therefore, Mercury is less than a block away, while Pluto is 5.6 miles to the east (I never saw it - the first one I saw was Uranus).
I stopped in Clare for a long lunch to hang out in the restaurant working on the blog. Vivek on the left, a physics major who now works in finance, and Wynn on the right, asked some questions about my bike. I also met Lane and Karen, who gave me some good tips about the UP since they'd been there recently, but didn't get their picture.
These are slightly better, but will only work for kids, for people living in certain counties in Texas and Mississippi, and for everyone living in Florida.
However, a hand painted sign like this is going to do a much better job. It translates to: "Sure, it says 'Keep Out,' but if you wanna come on in it’s awright, 'cause Big Earl's been watchin' you fer a coupla days now and reeeally wants to meet you... up close, ya know? So, yeah, Keep Out. Or not.
Of course, if you REALLY don’t want trespassers, a hand painted sign written in the blood of your last victim will probably work best. A misspelling would've been a nice touch.
I got an AirBnB for the night and, again, was really fortunate. After I reserved it I got a message informing me that she had sold the property, but would honor the dates since she forgot to unlist it. Fifteen minutes later, the cabin was no longer on AirBnB.
The instructions I received said that he house was unlocked, and I could just go inside where I'd find the keys on the bar. However, when I tried the door it appeared to be locked... I couldn't get in. I tried the door a couple more times, rattling the knob and pushing a little in case it was stuck. Then I tried knocking, but got no answer. Finally, I took a picture of the place and messaged it to my host to let her know that I'm locked out.
As soon as I sent it, I thought maybe I should check the address.... and, yes, I had typed it wrong when I entered it into the Garmin. I almost walked into a complete stranger's house as if I owned it. Good lord, I'm turning into Florida Man.
