We very much enjoyed the Netherlands, but Belgium came as a relief with the return of excellent bakery and food, and some cities that were terrifically exciting and picturesque. Belgium is also the site of a good portion of the WWI fighting, and whether from historical or personal interest is the place to see the battlefields and memorials.

Belgium Pros:

Bakeries and restaurants on a par with France
Brugge and Iper and other wow cities and towns
Moderately good bike signage
Not too crazy a number of smokers

Belgium Cons:

Point to point bike sign system not as well done as in Holland
Toilets as cuckoo as in France
No so many dedicated bike paths
Flemish language tough to understand
